Default Surgery and Weight Loss

___________

There are people that have chosen to curb there eating habits by using surgery as a means of limiting stomach capacity, making you feel 'full' quicker, as there is less space in the stomach and feelings of fullness are usually the result

Please keep in mind we are not recommending these surgery procedures, this a discussion thread, thanks

Examples of some operations~

Laparoscopic Gastric Banding: A soft semi restrictional inflatable silicone band, that is left at a certain setting around the center of the stomach, making the stomach into two different sections, a smaller top section of the stomach (usually set to hold 30ml) and larger bottom section. The hour glass effect of this prosthesis (gastric band) is that it slows food from falling into the bottom section of the stomach, this gives the effect of the brain getting the impression that the stomach is full

The inflatable band can be adjusted from a remote but connected access port under the patients skin. The band pressure can be increased by the doctor squishing saline (salt water) into the band. Adjustments are made until the optimum ring size for the patient is achieved

Gastric Bypass: A gastric bypass actually works by cutting a section of the stomach of from the main body of the stomach, both parts of the stomach are then stapled shut. The exit for the now created small section of the stomach bypasses the part of the stomach responsible for absorbing calories. I will not go into the full details, that can be discussed by members of the fitnesgp community (you)

Please note: A Gastric Bypass will result in poor iron absorbtion, (women keep your menstrual cycle in mind, where you are already losing iron, this surgery will make you lose even more)

Also for Gastric Bypass Surgery anemia can be an issue, but doctors usually provide supplemtry treatment to manage anemia (in this case the anemia is caused by Vitamin B12 deficiency
as a result of the Surgery)

There are other surgical procedures as well, feel free to discuss these also

Thanks everyone
